DiMassi's Mediterranean Buffet -Addison

DiMassi's Mediterranean Buffet

5220 Beltline Road
Addison, TX 75001

Personally I love Mediterranean food.  It has so many vegetarian options, and the flavors are simply divine. DiMassi's Mediterranean Buffet located on Beltline in Addison is a place I like to call “Moms.” I can honestly say I passed up this place many times, it is located in an old Steak and Ale building and honestly does not stand out to well from the road. Usually my main reason for bypassing a Mediterranean restaurant is the cost. One day my wife and I decided to stop by and see what they offered.

Walking in, the smell is incredibly delicious. Then the Buffet jumps out at you. The plan was to walk out if there were limited or no vegetarian offerings. The reality was there were so many options it was mind blowing.  The buffet is literally at least 25 feet long and a huge portion is entirely vegetarian.  The thing I liked the most was that everything is clearly marked by name and ingredient, so there is no guess work as to what’s in your food. It is also very clean and inviting.

Being a buffet, there is no server. It is entirely up to you to get everything, but what a delight when you see the offerings.

Generally speaking, a Mediterranean meal for two can set you back at least 50 to 60 dollars, but DiMassi offers all you can eat for about $22 for two people, and that includes drinks and Baklava.

My most favorite food in the world is Falafel, and honestly I have never had a better one (or 5 or 20) as here. They make their bread fresh in a brick oven, and they serve the best potatoes, spinach, fried cauliflower, around. The salad offerings are many, and hummus and Baba Ghanouge are quite good.

The only drawback to the place is you will hurt after leaving because the offerings are so good and plentiful it is impossible to experience everything in one visit.

A great place to bring friends, family, or just yourself. There is a little something for everyone, even those meat eaters.

So I call this place "mom's" because everytime I eat here I feel like I just came home.

Let's start with the best! Mr. Chopsticks -Denton, Texas

Mr. Chopsticks
1633 Scripture
Denton, TX, 76201

Established in 1985 Mr. Chopsticks is without a doubt Denton’s best place to eat Vegetarian food. Its menu boasts “All dishes are unique, drawing inspiration from such diverse sources as China, India, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan”.

I first ate at Mr. Chopsticks when I moved to Denton in 1982. I was forever hooked. The food is diverse and made with extreme care. The vegetarian selections are incredible. What I like best about their menu is that all the vegetarian dishes are marked with a green dot. Unlike a lot of Asian food restaurants, vegetarian at Mr. Chopsticks does not include fish (something a savvy vegetarian must be aware of).

Service has never been incredible at Chopsticks as they tend to employ college students as servers so you get that “I don’t really care" attitude, and often times a server with more tattoos and piercings than you thought humanly possible, but the quality of the food is worth any hassle. Also since it is located not too far off campus, the prices are extremely affordable. I would say a typical meal with appetizers and drinks for 2 people should not set you back more than $20.

My personal favorite dish is the Cashew Tofu. A blend of fried rice, veggies, and wok fried cashews, and of course fried tofu. The tofu incidentally is fried to perfection.

I usually order a side of tofu, a lettuce wrap (filled with fresh veggies and firm tofu) and either a spring or vegetable roll.  As an appetizer  the vegetable tempura is the winner.

And if you want crisp, the  crispy noodles are incredible. Unlike most fried won ton wrappers, the crispy noodles at Chopsticks are made to order, so there is a bit of a wait, but its well worth it.

Honestly, even if you are not a vegetarian, if you like Asian cuisine, and happen to be in Denton, this is the place to go. Personally I will drive there from anywhere in Texas because it is just that good.

On a 5 star rating I give it a 5
